You can't go wrong with the 186 line of tubas in either CC or BBb. Those horns do come up for sale every now and then so unless you absolutely want a brand new one you might look around a little before pulling the trigger on a brand new one. I'm not knocking new horns. The first horn I bought many years ago was a brand new 186. The 5th valve is worth having on a CC horn. The nickle silver trim sure does look nice but, in my opinion, contributes little to the playing qualities of the horn.
Great job on your grades. You should be able to get a fine horn for around $3500.
