I believe that you are on the right track with the Martin I had a rotary vavle Martin with the same huge bell and squared bows. And I've seen several examples of the 3rd valve looping that you mention on Martins also. Sorry that I don't have any help idendifying the player or his gig. Here's the pic of the big rotary.
