I own a pair of Etymotic ER-20 earplugs. This model does NOT need to be custom fitted and is quite cheap. I have used them for approximately 2 years in park band, jazz band, and 1812 gigs and am VERY satisfied with them. Granted, they are not perfect but they do a fairly good job (for their price) of reducing volume (somewhere between 15 and 20 dbls) without getting muddy or garbled. I would venture to say that these earplugs would be a good investment for the retired, amateur, or "weekend warrior" type of player who doesn't want to spend a lot of money on ear protection.

You can purchase them on the Etymotic web site or from Brasswind.

In the words of Dennis Miller, "It's just my opinion, I may be wrong."
