I have them, the custom fitted type. I bought them to use in loud playing situations but since I've owned them have not been in a loud playing situation. I wear them when I go to movies, and I can hear and understand everything but it no longer hurts my ears. They are extremely comfortable (as opposed to the foam ones, which eventually hurt) and easy to put in and take out.

When playing with any kind of earplugs, the sound you hear from your own instrument will change. You will get more "head noise" and less "ear noise." Head noise is what you hear when you use the standard foam plugs. The proportion is changed, and you have to get used to that. The advantage is that you can hear your intonation better; the disadvantage is that you can hear your tone quality and blend not as well.
