I toyed with using that setup on my Getzen. With it, you can hold down the 5th valve and use normal fingerings and keept he notes in tune if the 4th valve is in play. Art H's tuba logic site describes this, it takes slightly more tubing to lower a 4th valve comination, and the 3/4 slide works well at this. However, the shorter valve slide made my horn play TOO bouncy, so i went back to the flat whole step and stupid low (yet in tune) fingerings to save my upper register, as well as my lips.
