I have finally found something that works (for me). I recently purchased the extension for the DEG tuba rest from Dave Fedderly at Baltimore Brass. Combined with a DEG rest, you have a waist high cradle for the bottom bow of the tuba to rest on. Since it is not attached to the horn, you are free to pivot and adjust the tuba as desired. At my local high school's band camp, I have been able to play with my right hand and conduct with the left all while standing! I did not want to sit down when all 9 sousaphones have to stand through long rehearsals, plus they can see me better if I stand. I have tried various straps in the past and found them uncomfortable or restrictive. With the DEG rest and extension, all of the weight of the tuba is supported and all I have to do is balance the horn.

I know the question of standing with a tuba has been posted many times in the past, and I hope this helps somebody out there. There are many other solutions, some of which may work better for YOU.
