I tried to convice my daughter to play the euphonium or tuba in band this year (her first year playing a band instrument). I've been working on her for years. She is very musically gifted and I'm sure she would give anyone (guy or girl) a run for their money as a player in the future. One of her reasons for not choosing the tuba/euph is that she didn't view that as a girls instrument. Now, I fully support her choice and want her to play something she wants to play and I'm very happy for her. But I wonder, if she had seen more women playing brass instruments (role models), would she have chosen differently? Who knows? I view it as a loss for the low brass sections of her future schools but a gain for the flute sections.

My experience, for what its worth,
