I've found that belts around the bell work well on some horns. They are especially helpful on the German style tall-belled instruments like the Mirafones. I use a belt on my Rudy Meinl 5/4 CC. The advantages of the belt approach is that it is adjustable and easily reversable. It also doesn't permanantly hurt the looks of the horns. You may find that the belt helps the response of notes that have been problematic to center. My trials with the belted Rudy have shown that the belt significantly enhances the projection of the sound in the hall where my orchestra performs.
It can be deceptive to the player, because it can sound and feel like the opposite result is occuring. I suggest that you have someone else listen from some distance away when you try this.
