Leaving Houston, after buying a seat for my CC, my F was charged $20-$30 bucks (I don't remember which) by Continental.
Flying to Portalnd, OR from Baltimore, I was charged $200. $50 for an extra bag (two tubas in flight cases and my CC gig bag stuffed with clothing and the F gig bag) and $50 per bag for being oversized.
In both cases, I was charged nothing on the opposite leg of the trip.
