These players likely could NOT be working in academia, the sheer number of professional orchestral players in any given city far outstrips (in most cases) the total number of music faculty at the local college!

And the Mapplethorpe issue? The real mistake was not the funding of that crap, it was the wholesale defense of that funding by other NEA recipients!~
