From my perspective, military bands are possibly the "best" job for a tuba player in terms of job security. I doubt any of these bands will fold. I don't know what they pay, but I'd be getting in shape if I were you. Being in good physical condition can't hurt your playing either. If you are questioning your college music major, perhaps you should take on a minor that might allow you to comfortably pay the bills if the dream takes a while to pan out. This will also give you a marketable skill if it doesn't.
