It's bleak!

The only place you can make a living recording is LA--as I understand it Jim Self and Tommy Johnson are the only guys that do that and both do other gigs.

The military gigs are stable but many people leave after their initial enlistment.

College jobs are getting fewer and fewer--many schools replace retiring tenured teachers with (part-time) Adjuncts.

Orchestra jobs are extremely competitive with the number of jobs shrinking.

If you really want a music career than forge ahead--if you have any doubts get teacher certified or have a double major.
