When the valves on a tuba I used to own would start to stick, I would pull them out, wash them in warm water, rinse and dry them.  I'd swab the cylinders out with a terry cloth towel, but I didn't use anything on it.  When I reassembled everything, I'd oil well with Space Filler.  On this horn I found the light weight formula for tight valves worked best.  I did not have to oil the valves very often between these cleanings, and when I did, it only required a small amount of oil.  I don't want to start a valve oil war, but that did work for me.
