Point well taken about the spelling. My question was, What was the composers intent. We have the habit of Americanizing so many works, i.e.; playing them on instruments that may have shocked the composer and his concept. I LOVE the CSO and SFSO recordings, but just wonder if that's what Ol' Carl had in mind. Not doing it anythime soon, just looking at the part. If I hadn't the reference of those two great recordings and had to go on the part alone, a big F would seem to be the horn of choice, but practice says CC. Seems like an awful lot of work, but well worth it, I'm sure. I have to be upfront, I really don't like Nielson's music, he sounds like Sibelius on steroids, lots of ideas with no flow to them. Keeps the brass happy though.
