We did The Inextinguishable last season and you bet I played it on the 45SLP. What I lost in that "Atlas holding up the world" sound ( I love it), the 45SLP made up in lyrical,blending,"cheese" for the stuff with either trombones or horns. And I could slide into the sound of the basses and make them seem larger.
Next season we play Bruckner 7 and I'll play the 45SLP on mvts 1,3,4. For the 2nd I'll move to stage right and sit with the tuben( Seattle Opera section) and play my Kaiser Kruspe BBb.
For me, I here the BAT sound as too distinct and remote to the rest of the orchestra.
Maybe yur equipment just gets smaller as you get older????? DaveM
