These take the large bore (bass trombone) shank mp like the new Bessons. As Klaus said, Yamaha replaced this model with the 642 and the (new) 842 which have bigger bells. The 842 also has a shorter 1st valve slide. I have the 641 in laquer and had my 1st valve slide cut down so that I can push it in if I need to. Most of the time I have it pulled out to where it was before I had it cut down. Search on the 842 for other new features of this horn.
