I recently tried to fly cross-country for a gig with my horn packed that way, and, for the first time, I wasnt' allowed to check my horn. It had to fly cargo, where it was promptly lost. Played the show on a borrowed horn and threatened to sue the airline because they wanted to charge me for the honor of watching them lose my tuba.
