I tried the R&S II on our Yamahas this past weekend and I was very surprised. I haven't like the SHII for several reasons, the biggest being my sound, but I produce a better sound on the R&S and it is a more comfortable rim than the SHII. I did not sacrifice tone, volume, intonation, or precision of attacks on my section members also noticed the difference.

As far as pads go, UMI and Yamaha make them and they are available thru Brasswind, Rayburn in Boston, and probably several others.

The new King 2350's are being made by Jupiter.
