As for pads for the shoulder, I have to say that it depends on the person. I personally dont like shoulder pads. The thing that I find that works best is just some icy hot. I will recommend that if you have a weak back to wear a backbrace. At my high school we did all kinds of dances and swings and stuff that I love doing but they aren't good for the back. If you have ever heard of anything called the "hop" they can cause some pain. I managed to jam my spine one season and six months of the chiropractor every day fixed that problem but it is not worth the expense. However on the mouthpiece part i would say either Bach 18 or 24 aw's or even a helleburg. i have played all three and i couldn't say which is my favorite. If I had to choose it would the the Bach's for marching and the helleburg for concert.
