They are not compensating. I owned/played this horn for several years and I don't recommend it. The quality of construction is very poor (leaks, acid bleed, misaligned valve threads, subdstandard valve plating, etc.) - something that I've noticed on other Besson horns in the low to mid range. If you try the horn and love the sound (it sounds like a Besson), look for a used horn. If you are looking for a new, mid-priced horn that will last a long time, buy a Yamaha 321. A friend of mine bought one of those a year before I bought mine and his still looks like new. I sold mine.
