Well, what Strauss wanted is for it to be played on horn. I agree having a copy of a edition for tuba that is asked for by an audition committee of a major symphony is a good thing. Even if you don't choose to play that edition, you may gain some ideas out of it that you may wish to employ.

The TUBA Press used to have a collection of famous transcriptions for tuba call "The Virtuoso Tubaist" by Raymond Lee Malody that has this, a lot of other horn pieces, and Arban and Clarke trumpet solos transcribed into bass clef. Yes, the title does misspell "tubist" and there are lots of errors in the transposition of accidentals. But they are easily discernable.

With any of this, you are still the musician that has to make choices in interpetation. Do some research and make an informed decision.
