Man I am up late. I listened for the first time to the John Williams' tuba concerto a few weeks ago played by someone who posts every once in a while on this BBS. He played it very well indeed, but I was dissapointed with the 'music'. A show-off piece?-yes. A piece of music-not at all. It was one of the worst pieces of 'music' I have heard. It was a big letdown because I really like John Williams' music in general, even though he borrows like crazy from many composers. I can see why they use VW instead. They are looking for the best overall musician at these auditions.
By the way, I have talked to some pro players ( one who is a good string bassist ) that have heard it and they thought it was a stupid concerto also.
