Thomas -

Of all the players I have heard and studied, John Fletcher is the one that speaks to me the best. However, for the VW, I personally like the Michael Lind recording. Check it out from Tapp Music. Michael Lind "The Virtuoso Tuba" Caprice Classics Recordings, # CAP 21493.

As for the Hindemith, I like the Pokorny (Paul Hindemith: Complete Brass Works -- Summit Brass. Summit Records DCD 115-2) and I like the Fritz Kaenzig (someone who I'd like to hear on more solo recordings) CD very much. This is available through Equilibrium (CD # EQ10) PO Box305, Dexter, MI 48130. Fletcher recorded the Hindemith and I would give a nice sum for a copy of that long out-of-print LP (hint to those of you with an extra copy lying around).

Buy your copies today!

Good luck getting the VW to speak to you. It spoke to me the last time I played it. It said, "Hey Mike, if you spent more time with the tuba and less time on that computer you would probably wouldn't suck so much....HA!!!"
