Most of Conn's best instruments were made before World War II. Unlike some smaller manufacturers, Conn was forced to manufacture war goods, and the factory never regained the preeminence in the music industry after the War that they had enjoyed beforehand. The Conn tubas from the 1920's, '30's and '40's are my favorites. I have owned a 1935 model 34J, which was one of the heaviest tubas I've ever lugged about, and it's sound is incomparable.
