I owned a 186-U5 CC and while I did not have the problem that you are having, "bell ring" is not that uncommon with Mirafones. The problem seems to come from the tone ring around the bell flare, as when some of the Mirafones get older and the geometry of the bell changes (from damage, setting the horn on the bell, etc.), some separation occurs between the tone ring and the bell. Certain notes hit the right frequency that causes the two pieces of metal to vibrate at diffrent levels, thus causing the "ring." Have a good brass repair tech check it out and make sure everything is kosher. Some people remove the tone ring, but removal seems to adversely affect the horn's projection of sound.
