What are these schools looking for in their students? Potential for success, ability to play, ability to pay (!), past grades, SAT scores, recommendations and more all play their part. My suggestion is to make sure you are fully prepared to enter any college you choose (this includes being prepared acedemically as well as musically). Know ALL your scales (since these have been the same ones which have been around hundreds of years {even before the tuba!}) and will show you are ready (and willing) to work.

Going to the 'best' college will not guarantee your success, nor will a 'lessor' college spell doom. Your personal success will not be determined by your choice of schools, but by your choices at those schools. Think about it!
