The Capriccio was written in 1980 for Polish tubaist Zdzislaw Piernik. It is on an album titled Zdzislaw Piernik-Tuba. ( I have the album in front of me but I don't think that it is available anymore) He was first introduced to the United States at the "International Tuba Euphonium Symposium Workshop" in 1978 at the University of Southern California. For those of us who were there we were treated to a rather eclectic recital of wild avant-garde pieces written for Zdzislaw interspersed with transcriptions such as Saint Saens The Swan and Schubert Serenade. Roger Bobo discovered him in Poland in 1975 while on a LAPO tour. The low brass went to a night club and sat down for a few beers and the featured performer was Zdzislaw Piernik performing all kinds of wild music and shtick.
