I played a Meinl-Weston BBb that was about 40-45 years old(Looks exactly like the Yamaha
YBB-641)and it worked okay, but, the valves were nosiy, it had dents in the valve tubing, the sound had an airy quailty, and a small bell (14in-15in). If your one of the "Fine Young Tubist" like me you should consider saving for your own horn, espeacially if your playing on a student horn(Yamaha YBB-105, better yet, anything with only three vavles).
I got a Miraphone 186CC-5u and was very pleased. I'm not sure what's wrong with your director if she can't have your school horn repaired to optimal playing condition(my director had my school horn repaired 3 times after a drummer triped over it!)Personally,
I won't put $$ into a school horn. I hope you can figure this one out.

Good Luck
Dave L.
