i think you are confusing being "stuck up" with being copnfident. many musicians come across as being stuck up because of there confidence and concentration on thir music. pat sheridan came across as being slightly suck up when i first saw him. however, i had the chance to play pool with pat and my future prof. at the lazy owl and he is a great guy. the key is to approach these professionals as you would any other player in your studio. tuba players are known for their friendliness and ability to recognize talent in a person they may be in competition with. i got a different experience. i experienced a bunch of guys(and girls..sorry) who love music and are not out to destroy every other player. other studios at my university seem to backstab to get to the top. tuba players seem to feed off each other's talent and enjoy each other's company.
