The ones that I've tried have been pretty good. I bought a rotary version a couple of years ago because I liked the sound and response a lot. Ultimately I didn't feel like making the learning effort of replacing my Rudy 5/4 with it, since when I compared them in my performance hall the Rudy seemed to project a bit better and my colleagues felt there wasn't that much difference in the sound. I sold it to one of my students, and it is serving him quite well. It does seem too big for solo, quintet, and small orchestra applications etc. I wouldn't recommend anything that bit for most students' first or only tuba. Pared up with a smaller CC, F, or Eb would work fine.
