That's exactly how it works for me, even though I only have two keys to worry about. When I'm holding an F tuba, I think F tuba. If, perchance, I happen to visualize the BBb horn while playing the F, I'm in trouble. The fingerings go with the particular instrument.

I find that I have no trouble moving between two F tubas, even though one has four valves (for the moment) and the other five. Several notes on the two horns must be fingered differently to get them in tune. Those quirks seem to follow the horn. If I had two nearly identical horns with different quirks, I might be in trouble. That's why if I buy another BBb it has to be a very different kind of horn than my Miraphone.
