Let's put it this way....you would not consider reading a book one sentence at a time and then going back over that sentence to understand its meaning. Sight reading builds fluency in the language of music. The more you do, the better overall reader you become. Its easy to give advice in this regard because I once looked for the easy way to become a good musician. Plain and simple....the more you read, the better you get at it.
