None the less a two hour credit project should still require substantial research. When I was taking Music Bibliography at Florida State, one of the final projects was to present a prospectus for a research topic (aka doctoral thesis). Not to give to much away from my idea which I may still use as Im considering finishing my DMA in the next few years, think about this:

Consider the rise of the tuba as a soloistic element in the orchestral setting.

A convincing evolution could easily be presented through the analysis of several(5 to 20 depending on dedication to topic)tuba parts and score study of major orchestral works spanning a time line ranging from the inclusion of the instrument in the orchestra on a full time basis (1836-40) to present. If I don't stop there I'll retype my 15 page prospectus and Im not quite up to that :))
