1. I think I understand the concept of venting a piston valve. It reduces the resistance to the free movement of the piston caused by air compression on the way down and a partial vacuum on the way up. If I have that more or less right, I don't understand the concept of venting a rotary valve. There is no air compression or partial vacuum. What am I missing?

2. There are little headless screws, with the slot right in the screw shaft, in the bottom of the rotary valves on a new Miraphone. What is the function of these?

3. Is replacement of the bumpers on rotary valves a user function? I suspect it is, but where do you go for them and what do you ask for?

I didn't set out to prove there is something for every level on this wonderful, and usually wonderfully entertaining, BBS, but maybe I've done that. Answers will be appreciated.
