Hi all -

Has anyone on the list got any experience with the YAMAHA Electronic Practice Mute (Silent Brass range) for Tuba?

I've got tolerant neighbours, although it would be nice to play (when the urge takes me!) at midnight or later! It would also save my good wife's ears from hours of endless scales and flexibilities - they must sound totally boring!! It would also reduce the strains put upon my neighbour's good will, know what I mean?!

Any comments welcome - e.g. do they work effectively, comfy to use, how much noise actually 'escapes' from the horn when they're 'plugged' in, pros/cons? etc, etc. In the literature for them it's described as having a little 'sound leakage'.

Here's a general link for them: http://www.akre-midtsund.no/silentuba.html

(Scroll down for english text)

I'm in the UK and they are priced around £300 (UK Pounds) - wondering if it'll be a worthwhile investment!!

Thanks guys,
Matt.
