Ask the good doctor if he ever knew of the production of a slant rotary valve, 5 valve CC. I went to school with someone who had one of these and it was a Marzan and an incredible horn. This horn had a very typical German rotary style sound but it could take more force without breaking up than any other tuba I ever saw. The guy who owned it, a Canadian from Regina, was about 6'6" and had 7 liters easy. I actually saw him once play so loud that he could move the flourescent light bulbs out of their sockets in the light above where he was sitting. He could actually blow the lights out with this horn. In any event, I'd be curious to know the specifics of this horn's production. I feel such an instrument would be very popular today if it were available. Thanks for relaying the question!
