I started using a GLM-100 contact mike a few years ago and love it. Sam Pilafian borrowed mine for an outdoor gig he did with the Bras Band of Battle Creek a couple of years ago and liked it too. The whole tuba section in BBBC uses them in concerts strictly for getting live recording balance along with the hall sound, but I have used it on solo gigs with wind ensembles and for solo jazz gigs with a combo. Price is around $260 I think.
