I had mine out via oral surgery. Two weeks later I was playing a weekend of killer band concerts. Make sure whoever is taking them out has done it alot abd understands that have a permanently numb face is not an option for you. Look at it this way, would you rather have to change careers at 18 because of a doctor's mistake or after you've dedicated years of your life to the tuba? I'd say do it now!
