Actually I love the sound of the King 2340? (Is that the number for the bell front horn?) They are especialy great for outdoor concerts too. Or if you are the only tuba player in the band, which happens more often than not, it would be a good thing. The only thing you have to be careful is not to get too loud, because I think a conductor may be more inclined to criticize the forward bell if it pointed right at him and you start to crack or get an ugly sound. It is like playing under a microscope. Perhaps the key is to just not point it directly at the director. Perhaps you can point it so that the sound goes out over the band rather than rght at the conductor. It may actually help the band hear you better!
