I'm guessing the player that you heard was Jeff Graves who is the current tuba/euph guy at ISU. He is indeed a swell player and ISU is a really underestimated school.The wind faculty is generally really strong and they are all really fine people as well!
Hope I was right about it being Jeff this weekend though! Since you mentioned Yamaha, it might be intersting to know if the player in question was a redhead. Then it might have been Tony Hernandez who will be a junior in the fall and is a fine up and comer.
