I have performed it a couple of times, including once as a the only tuba my Junior year in high school with the concert band. I just read off the pic part and transposed a few octaves down, putting it in the mid to upper part of the Bass Clef staff. At the suggestion of my then teacher (Pat Landolfi) I left out the turns at the beginnning of each phrase (still kept all the trills and everything else). This was done to add clarity, accent the phrasing better, and to help to cut through a large band. I have heard it both ways, and I think that it sounds better when done by a tuba section with the turns ommitted. Seems to add more punch and sound less muddy.
I would love to hear other opinions on it.
