For me, the European Eloquence (DG) reissue of Ozawa/BSO (from 1979) that has their 1982 "Blumine" inserted into the second movement position, where it belongs. It's a "fresh" and "youthful" (for lack of better adjectives) Mahler 1st, and I really like it better than any of the CSO versions which, to my poor ears, strike me as being a bit too, "mature beyond their years" sounding. If you can find this, it sells for a budget price.

It also comes coupled to an excellent "Kindertotenlieder" with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau/Karl Boehm/Berlin Phil. from the 1960's.
