I have played some oval shaped euphoniums and was impressed with their free blowing compared to the standard tuba shaped euphomium. I once saw an oval shaped tuba, probably and Eb or F in the Vaduz band in Lichtenstein. I didn't get to blow it. Do you think the oval shape is better than the standard shape? Also it is then isn't it possible that a sousaphone or helicon shape might be even better?
I think sharp bends may be bad news in all brass instruments because they introduce phase shift in the sound as it propagates toward the bell.
