At the Tuba Exchange booth at ITEC, Vince had these nifty little stands that do what you're talking about. They were basically a large "X" with a "U" attached at the intersection of the two arms of the "X", perpendicular to the plane of the "X". (Don't you just love using the word perpendicular!) The "U" was sized for the horn it held (larger or smaller depending on the width of the horn at the bottom bow) and the inside of the "U" was covered with some sort of carpeting. The rest of the contraption looked like it was made out of aluminum. These stands just sat on the floor and you slipped the horn into it when not in use. This device would work for storing the horn but it wasn't adjustable to be used while playing. Contacting Vince might be a good starting point in your search if this is what you're looking for.

My opinion for what it's worth...
