... it's time that you just took a step back and re-evaluated everything you're doing. How's your teacher? Did you go to someone who does the best for you and is considered the best? Maybe it's time for a change of perspective... call up whoever you consider to be the best tubist in the country/world and ask them what it would take to get a few lessons. Don't be afraid. They're just people like you and me (too many people at ITEC seemed too afraid to meet and connect with everyone they possibly could). How was school? Didn't like it? Perhaps you should move on. Find a job related to music that will tide you over until you land the job you want. During your off hours, do everything you possibly can to connect with people and perform and listen and practice. I think the biggest thing for you is business. Know as many people as possible to the point where they know your personality and playing well enough to recommend you to just about anyone. Also: sick of not getting paid? There are thousands of competitions to enter worldwide. Playing in an orchestra may be the greatest thing in the world, but winning competitions is a great thing too (especially when you get to do a concerto with such an orchestra).
