I know what you mean brother.

I played in some regional orchestras in the 1990's.
Was selected for the Rome festival.
Won an orchestral solo competition
Played at Busch Gardens

Now I am a band director. No McDonalds for me! At least I am eating and paying my bills. I can also save a little dough to buy the horns and mouthpieces that I want. I play in a couple of community bands to keep up my chops and continue to practice my excerpts.

Someday that orchestra gig in my area will open up and I will be ready.

You might consider picking up the education degree.

There are many performers without college degrees.

My dream still lives on. I will be like Woody Harrelson in that Movie "King Pin". When I emerged from my dormancy (dig the tuba out of the closet) they are going to say he was an up and coming talent in the 1990's.

Good luck with your future goals

Do not get discouraged. It might just take a little longer.
