' seems like the engineers at the "public" radio stations are a good source.

There are bunches of talented studio engineers, but I've run across some who don't have a good sense of the proper ambiance (balance of clarity, presence, and reverberation) of a fine acoustic recording.

The public radio engineers have access (or own) good equipment, and often know how to make a really nice instrumental acoustic recordings in "real" or even studio settings.
