The faster ones are those not learning specific fingerings for specific notes played on specific pitched tubas.

They know how patterns of partials and patterns of fingerings makes for the moves in intervals. So they only have to establish a few "key", when changing instruments.

But of course there are obstacles: Some persons have their ears locked to partial series in some specific keys. And the plain bass clef is rotten for the notation of low range contrabass tuba music. There are far too many ledger lines. The British brass band notation is much better. And the best one is the way the string bass is notated.
