I agree that there is a stigma or streotype regarding BBb and Eb tubas. I for one a proud to be an exclusive Eb player now. My reasons for giving up my CC were mostly monetary but I did have th choice since I had both instruments but when I had to decide which one had to go the CC went and the Eb stayed. There are college students that I played with in a tuba euph ensemble that scoffed at the idea of an Eb tuba. Some said "why would anyone want to play an Eb tuba?".
I have to agree with what Jay said that the modern 5 valve Eb tubas are every bit as good as an F tuba and I feel that for just owning one horn the big Eb tubas are the way to go. Even though I am just an amatuer I am serious about advancing my playing and sticking to just Eb to prove that they are an equal alternative to the more popular choices here in the US.
