Based on the almost mystical qualities attributed to the "CSO" Yorks, one could argue that these were the best tubas ever made. The copies of these horns are among the most expensive tubas available today. Even so, they were not without their problems. Were they the best in quality, design, materials, workmanship, playability, intonation or are they the best for every playing situation? I think not. They wouldn't be my choice for the best tuba to use in a quintet, or other small groups. I think that looking for "the best" is a fruitless exercise.
